If you are interested in mentoring an intern to work on a CWL or related project, please let us know here or via email (peter.amstutz at curii.com). We need to finalize the projects by September 23rd (to sign up mentors) so please let us know ASAP.
Details:
The internship will run from December 5, 2022 to March 3, 2023 with an open contribution period from Oct. 1, 2022 to Oct. 31, 2022. If you can’t this round, we will have funding for the next round as well (May 2023 to late August 2023)
The criteria are it is a general CWL project that will either (1) help the CWL project or community-at-large and not focus solely on a single implementation of CWL (2) well-scoped and appropriate for a 3 month project and (3) you can provide mentorship for the internship.
Outreachy is an international project, our previous interns have lived in Sri Lanka and Nigeria. Please consider that you might be supporting mentees working in those time zones before agreeing to mentor.
As stated above we need to “We need to finalize the projects by September 23rd (to sign up mentors) so please let us know ASAP.” so probably the latest would be the 20th so we have a few days to register them as mentors. I am not worried about the deadline for the second round yet - and I will post another post before that deadline. However, if people are interested, they can post here in the next few months.
Ah, I think the mentor signup got changes from the 23rd to the 29th. Regardless, we need the right ups a few days before to review and put them up on the website. So, I would assume the hard deadline should be no later than the 27th.
Well, no. I do not want people putting in projects directly. I would like them to chat with me/Peter first before entering themselves in the system. For several reasons (1) we don’t want too many projects (2) We want to ensure the project meets the criteria for Outreachy (3) We want to ensure the mentors understand what the project mentoring entails and have time to do do.
Since Peter is taking the time to organize these internships, I hope you can respect the way we would like to manage project suggestions.
So, please if people want to mentor - post here and/or please contact me and Peter as I suggested in the original post. Conceptually, I am fine with people entering in their own projects (it saves Peter time), but I would like to chat with people to make sure they understand the scope of Outreachy projects and their time requirements.
I am Arafat Abdussalam, an outreachy applicant with expertise on technical writing and experience writing python programming language. I will like to improve the existing CWL User guide. However, I will have to learn about CWL first before I start my contribution.
I am pleased to here as I intend to learn and collaborate with other contributors.
The best place to talk to us and other Outreachy students working on the User Guide is in Matrix – https://app.element.io/#/room/#docs-training:matrix.org. This thread was mainly for mentors and ideas for Outreachy projects but not for mentoring activities. You will get way more real-time help in the Matrix channel.
I reviewed your ticket. However, this is not a good place to ask for a review. We have an active Matrix channel - please talk to us there (see above) " The best place to talk to us and other Outreachy students working on the User Guide is in Matrix – https://app.element.io/#/room/#docs-training:matrix.org .".
Also @Nihasa is not a reviewer - so please do not tag them.
