Planning the times of the EMEA-APAC focused session of the 2022 CWL conference

Hello CWL friends in :earth_africa::earth_asia:,

We are planning the 2022 edition of the CWL conference, targeting the week of February 28th - March 4th, 2022.

For the session targeting working hours in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) along Asia and the Pacific (APAC) timezones, the times in 2021 were

Tuesday, February 9th 07:00 - 11:00 UTC
== 08:00 - 12:00 Central European Time
== 16:00 - 20:00 Japan Standard Time
== 18:00 - 22:00 Melbourne time

For this year, we’re thinking of putting the EMEA-APAC session on Wednesday, March 2nd.

We have a lot of CWL users and contributors in the British Isles, Japan, and Eastern Australia. For people in those groups, how was last year’s schedule for that 2nd session listed above?

It might be nice to move that session one hour later for those in the UTC timezones, but that would push the session to 17:00 - 21:00 in Japan, and 19:00 - 23:00 in Melbourne.

Please let us know!

The current thinking is to still have the “3rd” session targeting APAC and the Americas:

Friday, March 4th 00:00 - 04:00 UTC
== 09:00 - 13:00 Japan Standard Time
== 11:00 - 15:00 Melbourne Time
== Thursday, March 3rd, 16:00 - 20:00 USA Pacific Standard Time
== Thursday, March 3rd, 19:00 - 23:00 USA Eastern Standard Time

I didn’t join the conference last year, but 0700 UTC is near impossible for me (young kids) - anything before 0830 (assuming my partner’s ok to walk them to school) is difficult. That said, I’m happy to catch up on any must-see talk with recordings so would not want to inconvenience my antipodal colleagues.

I’m a night-owl so the 1900-2300 time zone works fine for me, particularly if we stick with pre-recorded videos.
